Québec Winter Carnival – Ice Palace

Since 1955, the imposing Palace of ice, which can be visited by the “carnival”, is built to “house” the king of the feast, Bonhomme Carnaval. Originally located at Place d’Youville, it was built facing the Block Parliament from 1973 to 2011. In 2012, it was built on the Plains of Abrahams. He will be back in front of Parliament in 2014. In the beginning, manufactured the sculpted blocks of ice, from 1979-1992 it was mostly made with over 9000 tons of compacted snow to finally be back ice made from 1993 . in 2008, 270 tons of ice were used for its realization.
