The Bay of Cap-Rouge

The Bay of Cap-Rouge was the first site selected by Jacques Cartier and Roberval, a general of Louis XIV to found the first French colony in America. This is also on the promontory they built the first fort.

The estuary of the River Cap Rouge was then selected because it was a place protected from strong winds and bad weather due to the proximity of the St. Lawrence River.
After only two years of occupation, Louis recalled his troops in France. Before their departure, they détruirent by fire all their facilities so as not to offer to potential enemies.
